Gabriella Cortese, designer of the brand, is a born traveller. Italian by birth and Parisian by adoption, she has travelled the world. In Bali, the age-old technique of printing on silk, batik, inspired her to create her first range of sarongs. Gabriella adds the word "antik" to "batik", because it rhymes and because it sounds good in every language. On a visit to India, she discovered other specialist skills: embroidery and bandhani, a traditional dyeing technique. In 1992, ANTIK BATIK was born.
