Eastpak is an American brand of backpacks, handbags and ready-to-wear founded in 1952 by Monte Goldman. The brand started in the bag business under the name Eastern Canvas Products USA Inc. Initially the brand made bags for the US Army, already known for the strength of their bags. The first product line included duffel bags, backpacks and security equipment. In 1976, the founder's son, Mark Goldam, joined the company and took it in a completely different direction. The brand name was changed to Eastpak. Seeing the popularity of shoulder bags among students, they launched the first line of backpacks and shoulder bags for the consumer market. This was the birth of the famous backpack worn by college students. The prints and finishes are modernised and the success is there. Eastpak, a confident brand that believes in its products, introduced a 30-year guarantee for its bags in 1984, a guarantee that is still in force today. In 1999 the first Eastpak wheeled luggage was launched. With its success, Eastpak became a household name brand known to all. In 2003 the brand decided to associate its name with designers in the course of collaborations, starting with the Dutch tattoo artist Hendrikus Johannes Everhardus Schiffmacher.
