Autre Aura was born from the belief that things can be made autrement, differently. It is also an ode to playfulness and to all those who play. The brand loves to experiment with textiles and their possibilities by mixing and matching prints and patterns, exploring traditions and techniques in an homage to the past and its heritage. Its aim is to create timeless, unique, and meaningful pieces. The collection intends to be a contemporary approach to India’s wonderful expertise and heritage. The state of Rajasthan is known for being the center and birthplace of block printing, considered the oldest fabric printing technique, with its earliest surviving examples dating back to the third century B.C. In this process, designs are engraved in wooden blocks and later transferred to the fabric by manually pressing the block with ink. Block printing is a slow, hand-crafted process that emphasizes the beauty of imperfection – yielding highly artistic results that cannot be obtained by any other method. Although this technique has sadly been replaced by machine rotary printing that imitates the original block prints, some ateliers using the traditional method are still active in the region. All of Autre Aura’s printed fabrics and embroideries are entirely handmade in family-owned ateliers in Jaipur, with the help of their magnificent artisans.
