Havaianas Women

Created in 1962 by Sao Paulo Alpargatas, Havaianas—which translates as "Hawaiian" in Portuguese—are flip-flops inspired by the Zori, a traditional Japanese sandal with a rice straw sole. And the rice grain pattern on the soles of Havaianas makes them truly unique. Initially sold to Brazilian workers, business boomed in the provinces of this eternal land of the future. Often imitated but never equaled, the flip-flop was put on a list of fundamental products by the Brazilian government, along with rice and green beans, in its attempts to curb inflation in the 1980s. It was at the '98 World Cup that Havaianas became a real winner. Despite Brazil's defeat in the final in Seleção, the "Brasil" collection became one of the brand's best sellers. Havaianas has since exported the spirit of Brazil beyond its borders, bringing its legendary rubber sole, strap decorated with two parallel threads and huge variety of designs and colors to the world. The brand was constantly reinventing itself in the 2000s, collaborating with the Oscars and bringing out limited editions with renowned brands and designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, Céline and the jeweler H. Stern, with whom it created the famous gold and diamond pair. In 2009, it took an eco-friendly turn by partnering with Conservation International and creating a flip-flop collection with 7% of sales going to support the organization in its environmental research to preserve the Atlantic tropical rainforest, the Amazon rainforest and Pantanal. In 2015, Havaianas' customers were delighted by the launch of its first clothing collection, including bikinis and sarongs, and it took the concept further still with a collection of beach accessories. Havaianas are a symbol of comfort, happiness and freedom, and offer simple and spontaneous footwear for everyone.
