Founded in 1971 in St-Tropez, Vilebrequin is synonymous with freedom, born under the sun and on the beach, in joy and pleasure. From season to season, Vilebrequin reinvents the elegance of holidays, and passes it on from generation to generation. Two Nîmes residents, Yvette and Fred, were behind the first boutique, and they introduced fashion to the young yéyé people of Nîmes. Fred, passionate about motor racing, quickly became a reporter and travelled the world to cover all the major Formula 1 races. After his return to France, he decided to conquer Yvette, in St-Tropez, and invented a free-spirited way of life. While the trend was towards short, tight-fitting models, Fred invented a revolutionary swimming costume. When Fred wore it for the first time at "Moorea", the fashionable beach in St-Tropez, the stars and all his friends wanted the same. They decided to market the model and one thing leading to another, the brand's reputation grew and it became one of the French references for swimwear.
